Scene Selection Patent Portfolio Offered by GTT

Portland, Oregon Portland, Oregon (May 27, 2009) — Global Technology Transfer Group, Inc. (GTT), the world leader in patent asset services, announces the availability of a patent asset in the area of consumer and professional digital media devices and authoring tools.

The patent details a method of scene detection commonly used in many Digital Video Recorder (DVR) systems, streaming video recorders, and filters. Video recording systems detect breakpoints in third party content by analyzing scene content and frame‐to‐frame changes. If there is a significant change in light or color scheme, for example, the system can identify scene changes or advertising content and present the user with features such as “scene skip.” GTT has uncovered substantial use of the technology in the mass consumer device and content delivery segment.

Users of video editing systems frequently need to identify when there are changes in a scene. This can be a time consuming process when individual frames are manually examined. The patent covers technologies that automatically detect scene changes by comparing the different video frame characteristics.

GTT focuses on best of class, high value assets centric to large consumer and business markets in the information communication technology area. Scene detection and scene selection represent key standard functions in content delivery and editing systems” states Michael Lubitz, CEO and Chairman of GTT.
